ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Thank you for participating in this very special program. Your expertise is deeply valued, and your feedback is essential to not only ensure the program’s success, but also to help us improve and grow it into a sustainable, ongoing, and fully funded initiative. Each of us brings unique skills and a personal approach to teaching. While we want you to feel free in how you instruct, it’s important that we all stay aligned with the same core goals.

THE CLIENTS

You will be working with individuals who are survivors of gender-based violence, including sexual and intimate partner violence, as well as human trafficking. Each client has gone through a screening and application process in order to participate in this program. Many of these survivors come from underserved communities and may have limited access to holistic wellness services. Being a survivor is often emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting. Our program promotes consistent self-care as a vital part of their healing journey. Our mission is to empower each client by:
• Teaching basic weightlifting and resistance training techniques
• Designing a program they can confidently understand, update, and perform independently over 9 weeks (18 sessions)

TRAINING OVERVIEW

This is a foundational strength program built around core movement patterns:

  • Squat

  • Single-leg squat

  • Hip hinge

  • Single-leg hip hinge

  • Vertical push/pull

  • Horizontal push/pull

  •  Anti-rotation/anti-flexion

  • Chop/liftYou will use your professional judgment to determine which movement patterns are appropriate for your client. Please omit any that are not suitable for their needs.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

The goal is for your client to confidently perform their program independently with minimal equipment.⸻

KEY REMINDERS
  • Since your client’s gym may not have the same equipment you do, please default to using dumbbells wherever possible.

  • Refrain from covering other areas of fitness (e.g., cardio). With only 18 sessions, we need to ensure a consistent strength training foundation across the board.

  • Incorporate any mobility or movement prep exercises necessary to safely prepare your client for the sessions you’ve designed.Note: After graduating from the program, each client will receive a 1-year NYC Parks & Recreation membership.⸻CLIENT MATCHING & COMMUNICATIONYou will receive your client’s name, contact information, and PAR-Q form. Clients are matched based on availability and scheduling compatibility.Important Notes:

  • Not all trainers will be matched with a client. Selection is based on location, dates, and scheduling fit.

  • If matched, submit any personal paperwork (e.g., liability release forms, prior exercise history) before your first session.

  • Contact your client within 48 hours of being assigned. Introduce yourself and ask if they prefer a 15-minute intro via virtual call or email.

  • Be sure to include:

  • Your name

  • Training location

  • A few sentences about who you are

  • A warm note about looking forward to working with them⸻SCHEDULING & STRUCTURE

  • Trainers will coordinate directly with their clients to schedule sessions.

  • Aim to complete all 18 sessions within 9 weeks. If rescheduling is necessary, do your best to remain within a 9–11 week timeframe (a 2-week buffer is available).

  • During the final 1–2 weeks of the program, try to visit your client’s new training location with them to help them feel confident. If this isn’t possible, strongly encourage them to visit it on their own before graduation.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
  • Clients may miss up to 2 sessions without needing to reschedule.

  • Trainers may also miss up to 2 sessions without rescheduling.
